Outrun the Sun is partnering with the Girls Scouts of Central Indiana to offer a new sun safety patch. Scouts may earn the patch (and an ultraviolet wristband) by reading educational information about sun safety and skin cancer prevention and also by participating in hands-on activities involving social media and more. Additional information for scouts is available by visiting the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana web site, www.girlscoutsindiana.org
Outrun the Sun spokesperson and IndyCar Series driver, Josef Newgarden, also encourages scouts to be sun safe!
Indiana University School of Medicine
Outrun the Sun joined forces with the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine to expand its dermatologic curriculum and now ALL medical students, not only those studying dermatology, learn to recognize and detect skin cancer, leading to better patient outcomes. Support for this initiative was provided in part by the William Paul Peterson Melanoma Education Fund.

Keep Race Fans Sun Safe
Outrun the Sun and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway have created the largest one-day sun safety initiative ever established in the United States. On May 29, fans of the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 received free sunscreen and ultraviolet (UV) wristbands that turn color when exposed to sunlight. Our goal is to help keep fans sun safe while enjoying the Indy 500.
Josef Newgarden, Verizon IndyCar Series driver and Outrun the Sun spokesperson, will appearer in sun safety public service announcement (PSA) airing on IMS video boards. Newgarden was also featured in a print PSA in the race program. Fans listening to the race heard sun safety messages broadcast on the IMS Radio Network.

He participates in Outrun the Sun events and promotes the mission through social media. Newgarden, who drives for CFH Racing, is entering his fourth year as an IndyCar Series driver.
