John Baker
John Baker is a life-long resident of Indianapolis. After graduating from Indiana University, John began his real estate career and has continued to focus his professional endeavors in real estate as the Chief Investment Officer at Zidan Management Group, a local multifamily investment company. John’s father, Bill, lost his battle with melanoma in 2007 and in 2017, John and his family started The Cacklebird Classic, an annual golf outing aimed at raising funds for initiatives generated by Outrun the Sun. Baker is a current board member of the Crooked Creek Community Development Organization and is active in civic engagement throughout Central Indiana. John, his wife, Annie, and their two boys live on the northside of Indianapolis.
Maria Bell, MD
Maria C. Bell is a resident in dermatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She developed a passion for Dermatology during her exposure to the field through basic science research in atopic dermatitis. She completed her intern year at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Bell was a member of the Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma Planning Committee and also served on the organization’s 15-year Celebration Planning Committee. Her involvement as a volunteer with Outrun the Sun was a meaningful part of her time in medical school and she looks forward to continuing to serve OTS and the skin cancer community through her board involvement.
L. Scott Hainey
Scott Hainey is a marketing and communications executive with more than three decades of experience, including 20 years in television broadcast management. He is currently the station project manager at 13WTHR. He has served on the CBS Promotion Caucus, Inside Edition Affiliate Advisory Board and the National Broadcasters Association Speakers Bureau. A native and life-long resident of Indianapolis, Hainey also actively volunteers for many civic, community, neighborhood and arts organizations, serving on various committees and boards. In addition to Outrun the Sun, he currently serves on the board of directors for the FBI Indianapolis Citizens Academy Alumni Association. Hainey is a past board member of the Salvation Army, Footlite Musicals, and the University of Indianapolis’ Department of Communication.
Nancy Richards Hanley, RN
Nancy Hanley recently retired after a 41-year nursing career in the Indianapolis community. She continues to use her specific areas of expertise to help those in need. Hanley has been an active volunteer in The Junior League of Indianapolis, St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, and the Patachou Foundation. In addition to her nursing licensure, she holds a B.A. in Psychology from Northwestern University. A melanoma survivor, Hanley has a passion to contribute to the prevention and cure of skin cancer.
Steven T. Holland
Steve Holland is Vice President of Commercial Mortgage Loans and Real Estate at OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc. Prior to his affiliation with OneAmerica, he was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company in Chicago and Cincinnati. He is a board member of the Chartered Realty Investor Society and a former board member of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership, and the Life Mortgage and Real Estate Officers Council. Holland is a graduate of Miami University and received his MBA from Indiana University.
Lisa Kaminski
As a melanoma survivor, Lisa Kaminski is passionate about skin cancer education and supporting melanoma research. Kaminski has served as a Certified Health and Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, Medical Assistant, an operations manager for a dermatology group, and a practice administrator for a specialty surgery center. She is currently affilated with Franciscan Health. Lisa has served as a board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County and has been a member of Tri Kappa. Her volunteer involvement includes Carmel International Arts Festival, Super Bowl, and American Dermatology for Managers. She also volunteers at Saint Vincent de Paul food pantry.
Jonna MacDougall, JD
A co-founder of Outrun the Sun, Jonna MacDougall retired after 32 years of service as an assistant dean at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law where she was involved in fundraising, marketing, alumni programs, continuing education, and media relations. Formerly executive director of a state scholastic press association, she was an assistant professor of journalism at Franklin College, where she taught media law and ethics. MacDougall is a past president of the Indiana chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and a past president of the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame. She is a past recipient of the IUPUI campus Veteran Staff Award and In 2007, she was an inaugural recipient of the IUPUI campus Community Engagement Award for her work with Outrun the Sun. Nick Miranda
Nick Miranda is a Sr. Business Development Manager for BMWC Constructors, an Indianapolis-based construction firm specializing in building complex manufacturing and process facilities for the aerospace, biopharmaceutical, semiconductor, chemical, and energy industries throughout the country. In addition to his work with Outrun the Sun, Nick is an active member of several local and national organizations, including the Construction Users Roundtable, Indiana Subcontractors Association, Coalition for Construction Safety, and the Indiana Construction Roundtable. His charitable support includes the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Construction Family Assistance Foundation, United Way, Kicking the Stigma, and the Salvation Army. Nick is a graduate of Purdue University.
Jennifer Patton Sarno
Jennifer Sarno is a co-founder of Outrun the Sun, Inc. She is a member of the National Association of REALTORS, Indiana Association of Realtors, and the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors. She is affiliated with Compass – The Carrie Holle Group. Sarno was an active supporter of her son’s sporting teams at Indiana University, her alma mater. As a breast cancer survivor, she has a special interest in fostering medical research. Sarno and her husband have a blended family with three children and reside in Carmel.
Keeter Sechrist, MD
Dr. Sechrist is a recently retired Dermatologist having worked and been a partner at Dermatology, Inc. for 34 years. She is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Academy of Dermatology, Society for Pediatric Dermatology, Indiana State Medical Association, and the Indianapolis Medical Society. She has been recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology as a “Member Making A Difference” through her work with Outrun the Sun, Inc.
Susan L. Smith
Susan L. Smith is an active community volunteer who has served in a leadership capacity for many notable organizations in the Greater Indianapolis area. Smith was a member of the Women’s Fund Advisory Board and also has been involved with the Junior League of Indianapolis, Children’s Museum Guild, St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, Park Tudor Mother’s Association, Dress for Success, Teach for America, and the Indianapolis Zoo. Smith currently serves on the board of directors of the Indiana Repertory Theatre.
Kim Stickney
Kim Stickney is a long-time Indianapolis area resident and retired RN. She and her husband owned a national home health care company serving individuals with hemophilia, immune deficiency, and other rare chronic diseases. Her husband was diagnosed with ocular melanoma in 2007 and passed away in 2013. Other members of Stickney’s family also have been touched by melanoma. She has volunteered with various organizations including Girl Scouts and The American Red Cross, and served as a Board member of the Humane Society of Indianapolis. She also was a member of the Board of Directors at Park Tudor School and volunteered for many years on its Development Committee.
Mary J. Tempel, NP
Mary Tempel is a retired dermatologic nurse practitioner who served as a registered nurse for nearly 50 years. She has an MSN degree from the Indiana University School of Nursing. Tempel served on the staff of Dermatology Incorporated for 19 years where she had direct experience with melanoma and other skin cancers. She serves on the Executive Advisory Committee of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand. She was named a Top 100 Legacy Leader by the Indiana University School of Nursing and was honored with the Spirit of Philanthropy Award. Tempel is a supporter of a number of other philanthropic organizations including the Indiana Repertory Theater, Conner Prairie and the American Red Cross. She also is a member of several professional organizations.
