Most skin cancer is caused by over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and indoor tanning beds. Melanoma, a form of skin cancer, can also be caused by exposure to dangerous chemicals. This increases firefighters’ risk for developing the disease. Outrun the Sun, in partnership with the Indianapolis Fire Department, is helping firefighters learn to prevent and detect skin cancer in its earliest stages.
