Keeping Race Fans Sun Safe

If you filled the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) to capacity 12 times, you’d see the number of Americans diagnosed with skin cancer every year. That’s about three and a half million people. Each May, upward of 300,000 race fans stream into IMS to enjoy the historic Indianapolis 500, the largest one-day sporting event in the world. Teaming with IMS, Outrun the Sun developed a sun safety program to help keep those fans protected while visiting the track.

Sun safety messages have been broadcast on video boards, on the IMS Radio Network, and have appeared in the event program.

This initiative is made possible, in part, through an independent grant from Merck & Co., Inc.
