Anand was born in Des Plaines, IL and grew up in Southern California. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. He completed both his MD and PhD training at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Anand completed a dermatology residency and postdoctoral fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He joined the UC Irvine faculty in July 2006. Anand has a clinical practice that focuses on melanocytic disorders, and has an active research group which focuses on melanocyte and melanoma biology.   His work has identified novel pathways involved in melanin pigmentation and pathwyas that regulate melanoma progression.   As a result of this work, he has two patents- one on a new pigment inhibitor and another on a new drug to treat melanoma.
