Mingyue, a Ph.D. candidate in epidemiology and an incoming faculty member at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, has researched genetic markers that increase susceptibility to basal cell carcinoma. She has particularly focused on SNPs linked to pigmentation, which underscores the risks for individuals with certain genetic traits. Her findings not only enhance genetic understanding but also emphasize the increased risk for individuals with specific phenotypes. Mingyue has also worked on a project examining the impact of sun exposure on overall cancer risk.

Additionally, she has explored the health status of firefighters. She plans to investigate the relationship between occupational exposure and melanoma risk among firefighters, a group often underrepresented in this context. This initiative, which recognizes the unique occupational exposures faced by firefighters and their potential impact on skin cancer risk, is critical in addressing public health challenges. Mingyue plans to continue her focus on skin cancer after her move to Dallas.
