Ryan Augustin, MD

Mayo Clinic

Dr. Ryan Augustin is a Hematology/Oncology fellow at Mayo Clinic, following internal medicine training, chief residency, and a postdoctoral fellowship in bioinformatics at the University of Pittsburgh. His academic focus centers on applying data science to oncology, using multidisciplinary collaboration to integrate high-dimensional datasets—including transcriptomics, digital pathology, radiomics, and clinical variables—to inform cancer biology and improve individualized treatment strategies.

Dr. Augustin is passionate about advancing precision oncology through machine learning and has led research on tumor-intrinsic mechanisms of immunotherapy resistance, as well as the development of predictive tools for early-stage solid tumors. He is also committed to educational innovation, having developed widely used asynchronous learning platforms and championed learner-centered teaching approaches.

With support from Outrun the Sun, Dr. Augustin is continuing to build a foundation in translational research, clinical trial development, and data science—with a goal of enabling a more data-informed approach to the care of patients with melanoma.
